Still Lovin it!

I am loving this place more and more everyday. I have met some great people since I arrived in China about a week and a half ago. When in Beijing, I met with the daughter of a former business associate of mine. Her name is Kim, and she and I went to a pretty chic lounge and ended up shooting pool with the owner of Becks Brewing Co. Since I have been in Qindao, I have also been blessed to make some great new friends that have helped me look for an apartment and navigate the language barrier, etc. Today, I stopped in Starbucks and met an American guy who is the VP of China Business Development for Anheuser-Busch. This place is really booming, and, because there are so few foreigners here, it is very easy to strike up a conversation with a familiar face. I think that is one of the great benefits of being in such a place as this. I cannot imagine it being so easy to make such connections, say for example, in New York City - but, here there is sense of a shared experience with anyone from a different place.

Last night, I went out with Jack and his GF to a nightclub, also popular with expats. I met some neat folks from Korea, Denmark, Bosnia, Cameroon, and France - I even met a guy from Hyattsville, MD which is the same area as the college I attended (University of Maryland.)

I still haven’t found a place, but this last week, the agent that I have been working with was able to finally show me places that I was interested in. I want to be in a high-rise building near my school, the gym, and the main shopping center here, JUSCO. I found a place that is about $500 a month - it is on the 23rd floor and is a corner unit, with large windows overlooking the main square (reminds me of Times Square.) It is in a great location and also faces out towards the beach.

Hey Man,

Good times out there. You are definitely a social, out-going guy so it doesn’t surprise me that you made some friends already. Are you working out because you have a beach near your place and you want to show off? I would if I were in your shoes. Anyway, thanks for sending me that email- it was great to hear from you and I look forward to reading up on yoru travels & experiences. Take care man!
